Brief History of MH JA

 

Cari White, Executive Director of the Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce, was contacted by Nancy Dantone, from the National Association of Junior Auxiliary, Inc., about having an organizational meeting in Mountain Home.  The meeting was Monday, February 5, 1996, at the Comfort Inn in Mountain Home.  Approximately twenty one showed up for the meeting.  Nancy Dantone explained to the group what Junior Auxiliary is and what activities and projects the group could do in the community.

 

An informal meeting was held at Sandyís Restaurant Friday, February 23, at Noon.  Twelve women attended this meeting and after discussing several items, it was decided to hold another meeting on Tuesday, March 12, at the Baxter County Library.  During the March 12, meeting, the election of officers was held, adoption of items in the by-laws, assessment of local dues, and discussions about what kind of service and financial projects the group would undertake.  Also it was decided that the monthly meeting would be the fourth Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church.

 

At the March 26, meeting, the members discussed the national convention, service projects and the first finance project.  At the April 23, meeting, the president assigned members to one of five proposed service projects and the one future finance project.  These groups will meet and decide before the next meeting if these projects will be viable options for the group.  Also, the officers and chairmen will meet for lunch the Friday before each monthly meeting.
